Technical Support Engineer Mechanical

Mechanical / Electromechanical Focus

📍 Location: Accra, Ghana (on-site & remote)

🕐 Type: Freelance / On-call

🗓️ Start date: Flexible

About the role

Think! Data Services deploys and maintains high-performance document scanning and data capture systems for clients across Africa. These are precision machines — combining motors, rollers, sensors, and control electronics — and keeping them running requires real mechanical expertise.

We're looking for a hands-on Technical Support Engineer to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of this specialized equipment. You'll be engaged on a freelance, on-call basis — stepping in when technical expertise is needed and submitting structured reports after each assignment.

This role suits a mechanically inclined engineer or technician who enjoys diagnosing faults and restoring equipment to peak performance.

What you'll do

  • Install and configure high-speed document scanners and data capture systems

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults — rollers, feeders, alignment, and wear components

  • Perform preventive maintenance on electromechanical systems

  • Troubleshoot paper transport and feeding mechanisms, motor performance, and sensor alignment

  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment safely and efficiently

  • Support digitization projects during peak periods

  • Provide basic user guidance and operational support

  • Submit clear, structured service reports after each assignment

What we're looking for

Background

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Electrical Engineering (with strong mechanical affinity)

Technical experience

  • Hands-on experience with printers, scanners, copiers, or industrial/lab equipment

  • Experience with mechanical repairs, part replacement, and equipment calibration

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance of electromechanical systems with moving parts

  • Knowledge of Windows and software installation

Skills & mindset

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

  • Comfortable working with motors, belts, rollers, and precision assemblies

  • Proficient with hand tools and measurement tools (multimeter is a plus)

  • Structured, independent working style

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-speed scanners or OMR systems

  • Background in field service or equipment maintenance

How this role works

Assignments are scheduled based on project needs. Expected response times:

  • Remote support: within a few hours

  • On-site support: within 1–3 days, depending on location

Compensation is flexible and performance-based:

  • Per assignment / per visit fees

  • Travel cost reimbursement

  • Optional monthly retainer for priority availability

Why join us

  • Work with advanced international scanning and data capture technologies

  • Gain hands-on experience with precision electromechanical systems

  • Flexible, project-based income with room to grow

  • Be part of a fast-growing company operating across Ghana and internationally
